Alyssa Jewell coordinates the Poets in Print Reading Series at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center and is a Ph.D. in English with a focus on Creative Writing and Poetry candidate at Western Michigan University. She is co-editor of poetry for Waxwing as well as Third Coast and a 2023 winner of WMU’s All-University Award for Research and Creative Scholarship. Her research scholarship focuses on bridging the gap between ESL and creative writing.
Alyssa graduated from Western Michigan University with an MFA in Creative Writing and Poetry and was the winner of the 2017 Herb Scott Award for Excellence in Poetry. She also graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Master of Education in TESOL and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and secondary education. She is a recipient of support from the Vermont Studio Center.
She lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she teaches college-level ESL, poetry, and creative writing courses.
